How To Help

The Christmas Bureau can only help with the generous support of the community.  If you would like to help in some way, thank you!  You have many options open to you.

I want to help in Kitchener or Waterloo…

Volunteer

Over 4,000 hampers are delivered to Kitchener and Waterloo residents each year.

If you want to help in Kitchener or Waterloo you can volunteer in the following ways:

Drivers

Hampers in KW are delivered to people who have applied.  Each year, we rely on many generous volunteer drivers to share the gift of food with over 4,000 households.  If you have a vehicle, we need your help between December 11th-16th and 18th-19th. You can sign up online by clicking here, or please call us at 519-742-8327 or email at volunteering@houseoffriendship.org

Turkey Trucks

Each year we are happy to distribute a turkey or chicken to interested families.  Turkey distribution occurs at one site in Kitchener and one site in Waterloo.

If you are available between December 13th  and 20th for a two hour shift between 9am and 5pm please click on this link here to sign up for Waterloo, or this one here to sign up for Kitchener.

Or contact us at 519-742-8327 or volunteering@houseoffriendship.org and let us know you would like to help.

Volunteer in the Warehouse Office

Organizing the food for 4,000 households is a major task and we could use your help behind the scenes preparing them for delivery.  If you are available between November 27th and 15th please contact us at 519-742-8327 or volunteering@houseoffriendship.org to see if there are any current openings.

Donate

If you would like to donate to House of Friendship’s Christmas Hamper Program, you can do so online by following this link.

If you would like to provide gifts you can provide an unwrapped toy for a child under the age of 16, a gift certificate or make a monetary donation at the Salvation Army at their 300 Gage Street location.  Please call 519-745-4215 for some specific ideas about where the most need is.

I want to help in Cambridge…

Sponsor

We have children and families of all ages and sizes to choose from. When you agree to sponsor a family you agree to purchase gifts for each child and if you choose, the parent(s) as well.  If you don’t have time to shop but would still like to sponsor a family you can drop off a financial donation to the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank at 54 Ainslie St. S.

Donate

Many families do not get sponsored.  Your monetary donation goes a long way in directly purchasing gift cards and gifts for these families at Christmas.  We have many ways for you to donate: cash, cheque, Mastercard, Visa or https://www.canadahelps.org/en/.  To make a donation by phone please call Ellen at 519- 622-6550 ext. 210.

Unwrapped gifts and toys may also be dropped off for children 0-8 years of age at the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank.  You are also welcome to support teens and tweens by dropping off a gift card in the amount of $25.  Gift card suggestions include the Cambridge Mall, HMV, i-tune cards, Galaxy Theatre, etc.

I want to help in Woolwich…

Volunteer

Many volunteers are needed to assist in wrapping gifts, shopping and preparing food hampers.  To become a volunteer, call 519-669-5139 or drop by the Woolwich Community Services office.

Sponsor

It is also possible to sponsor a family.  To shop for the particular family you will receive the following information: number of family members, what their needs/wants are, clothing sizes, and ages. This can be a great way for anyone to get into the Christmas spirit!  To do so please contact Woolwich Community Services at 519-669-5139.

Donate

Donations of non-perishable food, new clothing and new toys which fill the hampers can be dropped off at Woolwich Community Services, 5 Memorial Avenue, in Elmira before December 6th.  Christmas “Wish” Trees are located at Home Hardware Stores in Elmira, Linwood and St. Jacobs.  Remove a “Wish” gift tag from the tree, purchase that item and return it to any of the above locations.  Cash donations are used to purchase clothing, food vouchers, and a turkey or ham for each family.
